I recently had an interesting thought about Equestrian Girls and the S3 finale. When I stopped and thought about it there are some elements of these two things that seem to be missing from one or the other. So my question and theory is this: Are S3 ending and Equestrian Girls halves of a better whole? While I am glad that Equestrian Girls isn’t canon to the show, I have an interesting idea of how it would if the two stories were to be combined. The more I thought about it the more it would make a ton of sense. They even said that Magical Mystery Cure is only part 1 of a Three part story that Season 4 will continue.

This isn’t my thought on what S4 would be but more of what S3’s ending could have been. Since I only have a bit of spoiler info and I haven’t seen the movie yet, let’s just say anything that the movie had would have those minor problems fixed. The premise is really simple just combine the two stories together. It starts off when Twilight learns of her friends’ plight of the mixed cutiemark spell that she cast unaware of what could help fix it. After sulking a bit she then gets the idea of using the elements of harmony to help save her friends ah but you can’t use them if you don’t have all six parts. Twilight’s Element of Magic has been stolen. Dun Dun Duhhhhhn! Tracking her down she discovers the portal to Equestrian Girls universe. And she & spike set off to after the thief. There she meets her Alternet friends who are just fine doing their own proper thing but they don’t know her. So she works at trying to be their friend again, for a short while she considers the idea of staying the human world since she has pretty much everything she could have wanted. Her friends are fine, despite some differences she gets along with everyone.

But the more she bonds with her Alternet friends the more she realizes she misses the ones she left behind and that she would be terrible pony and friend to leave her true friends behind like that. She had made mistakes she tested a spell that she didn’t fully try understand before casting it. She had let one of elements of harmony get stolen and worst of all she was not going to take the responsibility for her actions and gave up & gave into something was easy. The temptation of self indulgence, with help her Alternet friends she gets her element back & beats Sunset Shimmer. Then she says good-bye to her human friends. Heading home she sets about the task of cleaning up her mess turning the rest real mane six back to normal. After which she finishes the spell proper and transcends into becoming an Alicorn princess. Celestia explains that she has profound understanding of friendship that when the chips were down, she didn’t need to be reminded of what friendship is about. She remembered on her own and taught her Alternet friends what it was about, aka the student became the teacher. And not only was embracing who she was a sign of being not only a good friend but also a good princess. A Pony, who cares about others more than anything else, makes Twilight Sparkle a better princess than others who would abuse their powers.

Now I admit this might have several flaws but I like the idea of it as a whole. It would have fixed a lot of things that the movie & S3 ending had problems with. S3ending had left that there was something else missing. EG had a lack of motivations and depth. In away I just sold the two toy ideas in one package (though EG toys still suck).  Would this make Sunset Shimmer a better villain? No but it would make it so that Sunset Shimmer would be a metaphysical version of what Twilight Sparkle could be as a bad pony. Thus the villain isn’t Sunset herself, it is Twilight who in a way was turning into Sunset: A Pony who takes the easy way out, the live she wants and believes she earned everything and indulges on love others and doesn’t take responsibility for her actions and being snotty spoiled brat. Twilight remembering the things she did with her friends wile bonding with the Alternates shows that she still cares about them, and realizes that to stay in the EG world would mean that she would be forgetting about her real family & friends. The Alternates would actually be encouraging her to go back because even for short time they got to know her they would have wanted to Twilight to do the same if the reverse was true. The ending with Twilight becoming a Alicorn would actually then have a better impact, because she grew up in a much more clearer way The combination of the two stories being a metaphor for the whole first 3 seasons.  She grew from being the pony that never wanted friends into a pony, who inspired friendship, and she learned her first princess lesson, a princess is nothing without her subjects.  Now THAT could have been sooo much better!
rather than posting this as journal I thought I keep post a interesting idea I had. The idea is "What if they had combined the S3 finale of ponies with the plot of Equestrian Girls? Would that make it better? " I think with some tweeking yes it would. Yes I realize that be doing so that would make EQG cannon WHICH IS IT IS NOT! But I don't know both do seem to be missing something & this was just what if. Tell me what do you think. And Let me know what you do to make those two better. And Don't say " I wouldn't have made it first place." cause you're not clever.
