Chapter 13: Down Memory Lane Up Victory Road!

Victory Road is a tough route to cross. There are a ton of obstacles for us to get pass. A interesting theory I wonder about, I rather not test it because it would take too long. See the way to the Victory Road tunnel is blocked by security guards. Holy Crap! Law Enforcement? We sure could have used you guys! I mean I know you guys have a job here checking to see if anyone who tried to get here has all the gym badges but how about it instead of one guard per badge you just have ONE guy check for ALL the badges and if they don’t tell them to get lost! Then the rest of you could you know… SERVE AND PROTECT! My one theory question is …could it be possible to get pass the guards as soon as you get the badge? Or do you trigger the 2nd Green fight before that? See the first fight with Green way back at the beginning of the game, that’s optional I didn’t have to fight him if I wanted to. But when you do get all the badges you have to fight him again in order to get to the front gates.
Well my question is, if you go and do the optional fight then fight Brock and get his badge and then try go to the league do you get into a sequence breaking fight with an overly powered Green? Or do you managed to get pass him and talk to the guard and show him you have the Bolder Badge?  Or does something else block your path that says “You can’t go there right now.” Somebody try it and let me know. I don’t feel the need to tell you what happens in full detail when I get into the Victory Road Cave. Like I said some powerful pokemon some that I caught, I even considering capturing a extra Onyx purely so I don’t have to level grind the one I caught in Rock Tunnel.  There are a lot of high level trainers here as I also said, One guy even tells me that Green passed his way. There is also a strength puzzle the first for Blue here. You’ll find these little white disks well those disks are pressure plate switches that you have to push a boulder onto in order to unblock your path. Also for me anyway, the wild pokemon that constantly show up if your not using a repel is annoying but a good chunk of them are either rock or ground type. Well two of my buddies Gamera and Nessy are water type and I want them to come with me face the Elite 4. So for those of you who though Charizard was the better pick….Well sorry but when you have type advantage like Blue does, you also given more experience AND you have a easier time clearing out the place.
While camping out in the cave hanging out with a few trainers she defeated in battle, Blue takes a glance at her badge collection. Every time a guard checked for a badge she also had to have something letting her pass until she got to the cave. She needed her HM friends help on that. Her fellow challengers were telling of how tough they were what they went through to get their gym badges so Blue decides to share hers and flashes back so much you’d think she had died with her life flashing before her eyes. Her Gym battles were very tough but they reminded her of lessons. To paraphrase the original theme song, They taught her and she taught them.

Her First Battle:
“Bulbasaur use tackle!” Green yells. “Careful Squirtle dodge and show him how you tackle!” Blue orders. “Squirtle!” the tiny turtle leaped and bashed his body in the plant lizard. “Bulbasaur is unable to battle. Squirtle wins!” One of Oak’s Aids declared. “I don’t believe it! I picked the wrong pokemon! I though Bulbasaur was suppose have type advantage?” Blue smirks, “There’s more to pokemon that dummy.” “Oh yeah? I’ll show you! I’m gonna get even tougher pokemon! Smell you later!” Green storms off. “Don’t listen to him, you were great little guy. You remind me of one of my favorite movie heroes. I’m gonna name you Gamera would you like that?” Blue asks sweetly. “Squirtle!” her new friend cheers giving her a hug.

Her first Gym Battle with Brock:

“Not bad for a beginner there Blue but my Onyx is tougher. I set the standard for all Gym battles.” Brock reminds her. “Raaawww!” the rock snake growls. “Holy Mum-Ra! It’s almost as big as Green’s Ego!” Blue eyes widen. “You got no chance against me girly. He’ll squash you flat!” Brock threatens.  “That won’t stop us. Gamera! Don’t be fooled, the bigger they are the harder they fall! Use soak it down with Water Gun!” Blue commands. “Squirtle!” Gamera sprays water from his mouth soaking Onyx. The whole gym shakes when Onyx fell. “Onyx! Heh well I guess you got me. I took you for granted, and so I lost. As proof of your victory, I confer on you this...the official Pokemon League Boulder Badge.” He hands her, her first badge. “You were great Gamera!” Blue cheers giving her friend a hug. “Remember Blue don’t underestimated your opponents. They can be stronger than they appear to be.” Blue nods. “Hey don’t sweat it. Don’t underestimated your friends either. You’d be surprise what they can do.” And how right he was.

Gamera’s first evolution:

“Wow you really did beat Brock! You’re really strong.” A camper complimented she amazed if a little disappointed she lost. “Eheh thanks.” Blue blushes. “Hey look! I think your friend is about to evolve. I never seen a pokemon do that before.” The camper girl pointed “Squirtle!” Her little friend glowed in a flash of light changed growing up. “Wartortal!” Gamera smirked. “Alright Gamera! Now your even stronger! That’s my friend. You still love me right?” “Wartortal!” He nods.

Her first Rocket fight on Mt. Moon:

“Come on! Get over here you stupid pink idiots!” One grunt demanded. “Hey leave those Clefairies alone!” Blue yelled. “Buzz off girly we’re Team Rocket and these pokemon our ours.” “Not if I have to say about it! Gamera! Use Bite!” Blue yells. He obeyed taking out the grunts enslaved Pokemon. “She’s tough! Come on man let’s beat it before the boss finds out.” The second grunt urged as they flee. “Cle…Clefairy?” the girl backed away. “Hey it’s alright I won’t hurt you. They wont bother you again.” Blue offered her hand showing them her friendliness. “Clefairy.” The male spoke as they started to trust her. “You know if you want I could teach you guys how to fight like Gamera.” “Clefairy?” The girl soon to be named Woona asked. Blue smiles and nods offering them two pokemon a new home, they joined her team.

Her battle with Misty:

“You may have gotten luck, But that Pikachu isn’t strong enough to take on my Starmie.” Misty challenges. “We’ll see about that. Your attacks are harsh but you’re being reckless.”  Blue warns. “I guess we’ll show you. Starmie! Use Water Pulse!” “Eeahha!” the purple starfish obey sending water sound rings at Pikachu. “Pikachu!” Blue cried. “Ha! With my Water Pulse move it leaves him confused. You’re in for it now.”  “Come on Pikachu! Thunder shock! It’s the same move just do what you did before!” Blue. The yellow mouse shook his head and glared at Starmie. “Pikaaaachuuuuu!” He yells sending volts of lighting frying him and knocking him back into the pool. “Wow! You're too much, all right! You can have the Cascade Badge to show that you beat me.” Misty hands the young girl her badge. “You have to have policy if you want to turn pro, you gotta have a plan. You certainly thought it through with me. But do you know what your plan is in general? How are you gonna raise your pokemon, how you gonna defeat the Elite?” She asks. Blue thought for a moment, “Easy, We’ll train hard with dedication and love. My friends will lead the way.”

Helping Bill & the SS Anne Captain:

Blue rubs the Captain’s back. “Ughh…Ah! Thank you miss. It’s silly I know that a Captain like me gets seasick.” He thanks her. “Hey it’s okay. I’m glad your feeling better. What kind of person what I be if I didn’t help others? I helped Bill from the light house and he gave the ticket to come aboard.” She explains. “ AH you met Bill huh? Yes helping others is always welcomed. Here take this Hidden Move called Cut that should help you clear a path to the Vermillion gym.” He hands her the disk. “Thank you Captain.” Blue grins.

Lt. Surge’s and his difficult puzzle:
“Hey come on challenge is one thing but this isn’t fair.” Blue groans trying to find the matching switch. “Life’s not fair kid. Only losers give up.” Surge shrugs. “But it’s impossible, I can’t mess up even once. This isn’t the military.” Blue argues. “Your right.  But it applies to everything. Never give anything less then your 100% best. A single mistake can cost you.” He teaches. Finally she figured it out and battled him. It came down to his last one. “Raichu! Go! Use Shock Wave!”  He orders. “Raiiiichu!” He brown mouse charges up his cheeks. “Dugtrio dig underground and surprise that over grown rat!” Blue yells. “Trio Trio!” The mole digs under ground avoiding the lighting being thrown down by Raichu. “Where did it go?” Surge wondered. “DUGTRIO!” The Dugtrio popped right up and smashed Raichu knocking him out. Lt. Surge folds his arms, “Now that’s a shocker! You’re the real deal, kid! Fine, then, take the Thunder Badge!” Blue takes her reward and they give each other a respectful salute.

Discovering Celadon Casino’s secret:
Blue had fought her way through the hidden lair and was practically introduced to the man behind it all simply sitting on a comfy couch. “So! I must say, I am impressed you got here. Team Rocket captures Pokémon from around the world. They're important tools for keeping our criminal enterprise going. I am the leader, Giovanni! For your insolence, you will feel a world of pain!” The Leader of Rocket introduces himself. “YOU MONSTER! Pokemon are living creatures just like us! You have no right to treat them this way. They aren’t weapons of war! I won’t let you get away with this!” Blue threatens. “Heh, we shall see, little girl.” He snickers. Much to his surprise Blue defeated the first two of  his team. “You have some skills as my grunts have said. What is your name?” “My name is Blue, I will stop you no matter what it takes.” Blue promises. “Hmm…very well Blue. Those are big words let us see if you can back them up. Kangaskhan put this brat in her place!” The colossal parent pokemon readied a battle pose.
“Let’s do it Gamera! Ice Beam!” Blue commanded. “Kangaskhan! Mega punch! Smack that little turtle into the ground.”  “KHAAAAAN!” The Kangaskhan roars as she puts energy into her fist ready to strike as she through her punch. “Gamera watch out!” Blue called out. “Wartortal!” Gamera quickly if just barely missed the Mega Punch and sprays him is mouth the ice liquid from his mouth and froze Kangaskhan sending it the ground. Giovanni couldn’t believe beaten by a 10 yr old girl. “WHAT! This cannot be!” He glares at Blue. “Give it up Giovanni! Your under arrest!” Blue threatens. The mob boss scoffs returning his pokemon to her ball, “I see that you raise Pokémon with utmost care. A child like you would never understand what I hope to achieve. I shall step aside this time! I hope we meet again...
He throws a smoke ball causing him vanish into thin air.

Admiring Erika’s beauty:
Blue couldn’t help but stare at her, she couldn’t believe she’s also royalty and yet her she is running this all girl grass type gym. She’s very beautiful, Blue shakes her head the flowery scents must being getting to her. “Are you alright dear? You seem… distracted.” Blue had to admit her sleepy attitude made her question what was going on. Was she just this relax to the garden’s floral arrangements? Was she just bored? Did she not get her cup of green tea? “Ms. Blue? …are you okay?” She repeated. Blue suddenly snapped out of her gaze. “Yeah…sorry. You said you had one more pokemon right?” Blue blushes realizing she was caught, a few the other girls giggled. “Yes just one. Vileploom, be a dear and fight for me?” she politely called out. “Vileploom!” The red and dark blue floor popped out from her ball. “This is it Ninetails, just hang in there.” Blue encourages her fire fox. “Urraah.” She barked. “Vileploom, … Giga drain.” Erika requested. “Oh crap not that move again!” Blue grunts but before snapping out of her daze again. “Ninetails, roast her with Flamethrower! Deep fry the vegetable!” She ordered. “Vileploooom!” Vileploom unleashes her energy spores to drain Blue’s pokemon “Vaahhhhh!” Ninetails roar as she quickly dodged out the way and breathed the huge steam of fire from her muzzle. “Vi…vile.” The plant collapsed. “Vileploom is unable to battle. Challenger Blue wins.” The judge confirmed.

This shocks Erika snapping her out of her own daze looking more lively than Blue has ever seen her, “Oh! I concede defeat. You are remarkably strong. I must confer on you the Rainbow Badge.” Blue added the multicolored badge to her id. “I got careless and lazy. I let the sleep powder scents of my flowers cloud my judgment. I do hope you’ll be careful not to become lazy and learn from my mistake.” She admitted. “I will. Thank you for battling me Princess Erika it’s been an honor.” Blue blushes. “Oh hohoh, you don’t need to be so formal with me. Just Erika will do.” She giggles.

Exorcize Lavender:

“What the?” One Rocket grunt noticed Blue entering the room from the stairs. “How did a little girl up here?” Another quested. “You heartless mother pus buckets!” Blue cursed. “Stay out of our way! We’re Team Rocket!” The third warns. “I know who you are. YOU MURDERS! YOU’LL PAY FOR WHAT YOU DID TO HER!” Blue yells in a fit of rage she has Gamera and her friends lay waste to every pokemon they had. “You’ll regret that! Wait until we tell the Boss about you!” One swears running off. “My…such a temper.” Mr. Fuji commented. “Mr. Fuji are you alright? I heard you were kidnapped.” Blue asked the old man, huffing trying calm herself down. “Heh? You came to save me? Thank you. But, I came here of my own free will. I came to calm the spirit of Cubone’s mother. I think Marowak’s spirit has finally left us. I must thank you for your kind concern.” He sighs in relief. “I’m glad to have helped. It was a terrible thing that happened.” Blue spoke trying to calm herself down. “Yes if this place has taught me anything in my time here is that life is precious so we must protect it as best we can. Come let’s go to my home at the bottom of the tower.” He offers his hand.

Saving Silph Co:

Just before She snuck into the building. Blue has a heart to heart with her team. “Listen girls…I love you all. You’re my friends. Especially you Gamera you stuck by me since the beginning. We’ve all seen how Team Rocket treats pokemon. We have to stop them! But…to do that…I would be putting our lives at risk. If I’m to prove I’m better than they are…I have to respect your wishes too. I won’t risk your lives if you don’t want this. You guys have always fallowed me loyalty but I can’t order you to come with me here. If you don’t come with me…I understand. This is your choice, I want you to decide for yourself if this what YOU want. I’ll respect whatever your choice is.” Blue spoke honestly. She tried to fight back the tears. Her friends circled her and gave her a hug. “Thanks you guys. Ready to send Team Rocket blasting off one last time?” She asked. “WARTORTAL!” Gamera cheers before flashing into a stream of light. “Alright! Go Gamera!” Blue cheers as her friend became Blastoise.
Once she reached to top of the building. “AH, Blue! So we meet again. The President and I were discussing a vital business proposition. Keep your nose out of Grown-up Matters….Or Experience and world of pain.” Giovanni threatens. Blue glares at him with fire in her eyes. “Listen here you sawed-off freak! I maybe 10 years old but you don’t scare me. If you think you can push me aside because I’m a child need I remind you I defeated you once before. Maybe I got off lucky, but I came prepared this time. SO GIVE ME YOUR BEST SHOT! I EAT PUNKS LIKE YOU FOR BREAKFAST! WITH MILK AND SUGER! LOTS OF SUGER! Blue yells. A huge fight brakes out at the top of the Skyscraper Blue . It was very clear that even with all her training his team was stronger than before. However with perseverance it was down to Gamera and his Nidoqueen. “NIDOQUEEN! DOUBLE KICK!” He orders. “Gamera! Use Ice beam!” The huge blue beast kicked Gamera in the chest and round house kicked again. However her feet only was met with hard shell. “RAAHHH!” Gamera roars throwing Nidoqueen to the floor and blasting her with Ice Beam finishing her. “Arrgh!! I lost again!?” Giovanni couldn’t believe it.  Gio ran for the window, “Blast it all! You ruined our plans for Silph! But Team Rocket will never fall! Blue, never forget that all Pokémon exist for Team Rocket! I must go, but I shall return!” He swears. opened it just a helicopter with a latter drop and he flew away. “And I’ll be waiting!” Blue threats with a grin.

Her struggle with Koga:

“Hang in there Ninetails! We can do this just hold on I just the thing for you.” Blue encourages her offering another hyper potion. “You are only delaying the inevitable child. My Toxic move makes the poison grows stronger every time it strikes.” Koga warns. “We’ll just see about that. Ninetails Quick Attack!” Blue orders. “Weezing, Sludge!” the ninja orders. “Weeeeezing!” The purple blob spits the toxic goo at Ninetails getting smacked. “Raaahh!” the fox yelped for getting and smacking Weezing down a bit. Blue saw her poor friend struggling as the poison struck. Blue quickly ran to catch her, “Ninetails! It’s okay girl. I’ll take care of you.” Blue encourages as she strokes her fur. “Do you give up child?” Koga asked. “Never. Just give me a moment.” Blue requests. She quickly dumps out her purse. Several dozen bottles many of them Hyper Potions littered the floor. “Sweet Shurikens girl!” He asked. Blue just giggles,“ Nurse Joy says a Pokemon trainer should always be prepared. Here you go Ninetails a Full Heal.”

Sabrina’s Mind games:

“Little Blue likes to swim because she’s scared to fly. Little Blue likes the water cause she likes to cry!” Sabrina sings. Blue sniffs unable to hold her tears. It was in that moment however her friend reached out and hugged her. Gamera smiles drying his mistress’ tears crystallizing them from his frosty breath. She gazed into his eyes. And saw in that moment the same spark that made Blue pick him in the first place. “No I won’t give up! Not now! NOT EVER! YOU HEAR ME YOU PSYCHOTIC B****! I DEFEATED WORSE THAN YOU! I WILL DESTORY YOU!” Blue gets up and leaps onto her friend’s back. “Oh and how will you do that? As if I didn’t know.” Sabrina asks. “Simple. GAMERA BITE THEIR (Yay)ing FACE OFF!” Blue shouts the two run charges right at them. “Alakazam Psybeam!” Sabrina quickly orders in shock. It was too late they tanked the hit and Gamera crushes Alakazam in his mighty jaws dropping him to the floor the twin bent spoons dropped the illusion faded away.
“Alakazam!” Sabrina runs over checking her fallen friend. It was too much he was knocked out in one shot. The gym leader gasps “This loss shocks me!” she then sighs in defeat, “But a loss is a loss. I admit I didn’t work hard enough to win. You earned the Marsh Badge.” She begrudgingly hands over the golden badge. “I think you should be saying something.” Blue hinted. Sabrina nods solemnly, “I’m sorry. That was wrong of me.”
Not long after she got the badge Blue was leaving the Pokemon Center when Sabrina send her a telepathic message, “Remember, Stay focused and face you fears or you will never over come anything.”

Blaine’s Passion:

“HA YOU BETTER HAVE BURN HEAL!” he taunts. “Old Man Please! I got me FULL HEALS you’re gonna get swept up in my flood!” Blue taunts right back. It eventually came down to his last pokemon Arcanine, “You got the spark girl, but I’m too hot to handle!” Blaine grins. “You wish! I’m gonna rain on your parade! GO GAMERA!” Blue summons. “You need more than water type to beat me. I got a brain myself. Arcanine use Take Down!” The old man requests  “Surf’s up Dude!” Blue tells her giant turtle. Arcanine leaps into to Gamera only for a huge wave of water splash sending him back really hard. Once again Blue has one shot her way to victory, her training paid off. “HA! Nice one, with this badge your Special stats will be heightened take my Fire Blast TM but don’t was it on water types.” He cheerfully hands her the disk and the Volcano Badge.
A little later while Blue was trying to make friends with her new baby prehistoric pokemon, Blain came to visit. It was a cute moment playing ‘peek-a-boo- with a omanyte hiding in it’s shell. “I never though I would be a mom so soon. I hope I do okay.” Blue sighs. “You’ll be fine. You obviously care a lot about pokemon, I’ve seen it with how powerful your Blastoise is, you had to have raised it with love.” He complimented. “Thanks. You know, I’ve worked really hard. I’ve done things I didn’t think could be possible, some of it dangerous. I must admit I think our battle was the first time since I started my journey, a long while, that I actually had fun battling.” She confessed. He chuckles a bit. “Is that wrong? Am I slipping or something?” Blue wonders. “Nah, nothing wrong with having fun battling so long as you know that you do the right thing when it counts. Personally I’d think you’d be doing something wrong if you weren’t having fun.” Blain assures. “I guess so. I’m getting nervous I only have one gym badge to go before I can qualify for the League Challenge.” Blain smirks, “Stay tough, Think carefully and remember to have fun. Can’t ever go wrong with that. If anything remember life’s too short for worries, Enjoy it.”  Blue smiles nodding hugging her new friend.

Giovanni’s Redemption:

The Rocket leader glares in disappointment, “She has failed me. You must not.” He speaks throwing his last Rocket Ball out revealing it to be the promised Nidoking. “Raaawwww!” The purple horned beast roars. “Nasty looking. But we can stop it.” Blue promises jumping on to her friends back. “Alright Gamera let’s show these punks what our teamwork can really do! FIRE THE HYRDO CANON!” Blue yells pointing at her targets. “Nidoking! THRASH that child’s turtle! NOW!” He ordered. Nidoking charges straight for our heroes. The water canons built up power, Gamera’s mouth opened wild revealing the same. “FIRE!” Blue commands. Huge amounts of water filled with pure energy was released from Gamera trashing the Nidoking and flooding gym as a result Giovanni’s eyes widen in pure shock. In the end however he smirks much to Blue’s surprise as he returns his last pokemon to his ball. “Ha! That was a truly intense fight. You have won! As proof, here is the Earth Badge!”  He places the green leaf shape badge in Blue’s hands. It was rather a surprise. Of all the dirty tricks they have pulled in the past she was surprised he was actually following the rules. “Seriously?”  Blue asks. He nods. “Yes, you reminded me of myself when I was young. The Earth Badge makes Pokemon of any level obey without question. It is evidence of your mastery as a Pokemon Trainer. With it, you can challenge the Pokémon League. Also, take this TM. Consider it a gift for your Pokemon League challenge.TM26 contains Earthquake. It is a powerful attack that causes a massive tremor. I made it when I ran the Gym here, far too long ago...”
“Maybe you should think about that. Friendship is greater than power. That is why you lost.” Blue points out. “Indeed. I realize that now. However having lost in this fashion, I can’t face my followers. I have betrayed their trust. As of today, Team Rocket is finished forever! As for myself, I shall dedicate my life to training again. Let us meet again someday! Farewell!” With that he vanishes from Blue’s sight.

Ah nothing like a few flashbacks. And in case your curious I only did the final fight recap with my token heroes who helped me beat them for simplicity’s sake and totally not because I couldn’t remember who was all on my team at the time. …Ahem anyway! Also for the those not in the know, Yes Erika is royalty it says so on her sign out front of her gym. Nothing really is left to say, we defeat every trainer in the cave and actually reached the Plateau. The building has both a built in Pokemon Center and PC and a shop with arguably the best items in the game. Full Restores, Max Potions, Full heals, minor revives anything you could use to help turn the tide of the battle in your favor. Max Potions are even better than Hyper because they restore all your health and Full Restores are the best item in the game of all. They combine full heals with Max potions basically: It cures what ales ya. The only thing that still puts it 2nd to a Pokemon Center is that it doesn’t recover Power for your attacks.

With is this placed unlocked we have all of Kento explore truly. We can fly to any place that has a pokemon center. But we not gonna fight the Elite just yet, We still have a lot grinding to do. Green as much we hate to admit it did give us a warning with our last battle. Which means if we want to win we got to be hard core enough. So next time: We cue the Rocky Training montage and prepare for the Ultimate Showdown!
Yes I figured since I kind of glossed over the older gym battles I wanted to reenact them in epic flash back mode. I hadn't really thought about writing it like that until I got to Sabrina. Which Hey this was originally kind of a review but since this Chapter is filler anyway might as well make it a good one. And while spoilers next chapter will have a training montage this one I feel also deserves epic music and not what you would expect but something I thought might be fitting. So with that said Enjoy!
